Valentines Dance

At TUUC, we love to dance. We have ballroom dancers, square dancers, contra dancers, chicken dancers, rock-n-roll dancers. We even have dancers who say they can't dance. At TUUC we accept all kinds of dancers -- even watchers of dancers! This annual event, started in 2007, has fast become one of our most enjoyed and most talked about social events of the year. Our 2009 Valentine's Dance was Saturday, February 14th, 5:30-9:30. The two photos below are from the 2008 dance. Photos of the 2009 dance can be found in a photo gallery under "Photos" on this website's main menu.  Everyone is beautiful on the dance floor (that we assemble in the sanctuary!).

Jazz Cafe Reunion Performance

Jazz Singer Deanna Reitan and Friends

On April 24, 2009, TUUC Music Director Deanna Reitan produced an entertaining evening of jazz at TUUC. It was something of a reunion for musicians and jazz lovers who had frequented, about 14 years ago, the Jazz Café that then was held on Saturday nights in the Kent Masonic Reception Hall. It lasted for four years and lives on in the memories of those who dreamed the dream and played the music. The First Jazz Café Reunion was a fundraiser for TUUC!

Singer-songwriter John Hoover

Singer-songer writer John Hoover also performed his songs that touch heart and soul.

Seahawks Concession Stand

A dedicated team of 32 volunteering TUUC members and friends formed and strengthened friendships while earning funds for TUUC by staffing a concession booth at Qwest Field for the Seattle Seahawks' 2008 home games.  We sold a heck-of-a-lot of pricey draft beer and pizza slices, and earned a small percentage profit. For manning the booth for those ten games, the group earned for TUUC about $17,000.  Each vounteer's day was a long one, with most volunteers departing Tacoma about 8 am and returning at about 6-7 pm.  To qualify, we each had to attend a state liquor control board servers' class, a health department food workers' class, and a class by the concessionaire, Levy Restaurants.

The team was led by "coach" Beth Bricker and her "assistant coach" Kate Araujo.
